“Art is a huge passion of mine, and I have had a love and appreciation for it as long as I can remember. I loved to sketch when I was young, but life gets busy and I never had a chance to pursue my dream as an artist. It was when Steve and I were doing our third house, there was a big blank wall and I knew I had to fill it with a large piece of art. After spending hours driving around (this was long before high speed internet or any money), and seeing the prices on larger canvases it quickly became apparent that I was going to have to find another solution.

This is where it all began...

I went to the art store and purchased a huge five foot by six foot canvas and a beginners set of acrylic paints and I started painting. It was a big, abstract piece and not only did I find myself really enjoying it, but people started to request commissions…. and the rest is history.

I have since moved on to oil paints and I love the freedom oil paints give me. They allow me to layer multiple colors on top of each other as this creates a beautiful complex translucency that’s impossible to get with acrylics. Unfortunately, time constraints have made it almost impossible to paint full time. One or two years will go by without even picking up a paint brush. When I am able to paint I always seem to start with cows. Even though I enjoy other subjects, it’s cows that always inspire me to start again. I have never been a fan of moody or dark art as I feel there’s enough sadness in the world without having to be reminded of the sadness day in day out, but art is such a personal thing that it’s very definitely an individual opinion. In the end nothing makes me happier than to hear someone tell me that my art makes them smile every day. There’s no better feeling.”
